7th ANNUAL RUSTBELT RUNOUT
Welcome to the 2026 Rustbelt Runout, Shaker Rocks’ annual Rope League Competition. The purpose of Rustbelt Runout is to strengthen our community, become stronger climbers and, most of all, have fun.
We have made some major changes to this year’s Rustbelt Runout based on your feedback! We’ve included more routes to climb, easier way of scoring, but still kept the same community feel you all enjoyed. This year you will compete in teams of four. Don’t have a team? Don’t worry! Sign up as an individual or a partial team, and we’ll find a team for you. Teams can be mixed abilities with mixed top rope and/or lead climbers. Actually, we encourage it! Awards will be given to the 1st place team, but everyone who participates gets a raffle ticket at Finals, so everyone has a chance to win awesome prizes.
Format
This year we will be using KAYA to keep track of scoring! All participants will receive an email with instructions on how to register your team.
· *NEW* You now can climb any existing route on the tall walls to score points (Minus Autobelay routes)
· *New* If you have climbed a route before Feb 1st, you must climb the route again to log the send.
· 36 additional routes will be set; 12 new routes will go up each week. Routes will span from 5.8 through 5.13-
· Your team will have the ability to climb any of the routes on any day of the week within the league.
Scoring
A competitor’s score is directly related to their handicap (registered max grade). If a climber has a 5.11b handicap they will receive 100 points for a 511b. For 5.11c they will receive 110 points. For 5.11a they will receive 80 points. Each grade deviation is +10/-20 points.
Only 2 team members must be present to score points. Climbers earn points based on the difficulty of the climb.
At the conclusion of the League, each team member’s top 8 scores will be added together and your team will be ranked.
Additional Scoring Details
1. Sandbag detection is enabled. If you are climbing higher than your registered max grade, your handicap may automatically be bumped to reflect your scoring.
2. Only a “clean send” earns full points (i.e. no hanging, weighting the rope, etc.)
3. Deduct 1 point for each “attempt” (up to 5 points max deduction). (Attempts when practicing without at least one teammate present DO count.)
4. Lead climbing adds 20 points to the point value of any route.
5. If lead climbing, you must clip the anchors from the marked “top” hold(s) to complete the route.
6. If you are not lead climbing certified, you may mock lead the routes to earn a 20-point bonus to the point value of any route. (Mark Lead on KAYA).
7. Repeat climbs are NOT allowed and will only be counted once.
8. In case of a tie, the tie will be broken by the total of the 9th highest scores of the team.
Updated scores will be published live on KAYA.
Dates: February 1st – February 25th
· Registration opens January 1st and runs through February 1st .
· Last day of climbing is Wednesday, February 25th . (Finals are February 28th)*
· Awards ceremony and raffles immediately after Finals (so ALL participants should attend!)
*On February 21st your team scores will be posted. You have 24 hours to make an appeal to your score. The top three teams will continue to the finals on Saturday February 28th . Your entire team must be present to compete at Finals. You may not substitute team members or compete as an individual.
Cost: Early Bird Registration Jan. 1 – Jan. 25: Members - $20/person, Non-members - $35/person*
Late registration Jan. 25 – Feb 1st: Members - $30/person, Non-members - $45/person*
