Youth Competitive Team Tryouts

Shaker Rocks will be hosting tryouts for our youth competitive teams and Rec Team! Tryout participants are expected to stay for the full 1.5 hour tryout session. The tryout is for both acceptance and placement. Our coaches will determine which team is best suited for each climber.

Tryouts:
Thursday, August 20th 4:30-6:00 PM

OR

Saturday, August 22nd 10:00-11:30 AM

Cost for Tryouts:
$5.00
*Includes rental gear, but does not include day pass or rentals before/after tryouts

More information about our teams:

• Rec Team: Rec Team will follow a similar structure to our Competitive Team with a focus on fun, personal growth, skill development, and community—not rankings or medals. Each practice will include a combination of games, climbing drills, technique and mindset training, projecting more challenging routes, fitness training, and climbing etiquette.
• Competitive Teams: Climbers are professionally coached at least twice a week. They compete in USA Climbing events at the Local level with the aim of qualifying for Regional, Divisional or National competitions. In addition to team practice, team members are encouraged to climb 1-2 times more per week with friends, family, or teammates. Gym membership is required due to the rigorous training schedule.

• Rec Team:
  • Under 9 y.o.: Wednesdays 5:00-6:30 PM OR Sundays 2:00-3:30 PM
  • 9 y.o. and older: Mondays 4:30-6:30 PM
• Intro: Mondays & Wednesdays, 4:30-6:30 PM
• Intermediate: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 4:30-6:30 PM
• Advanced: Mondays, Tuesdays, & Thursdays, 4:30-6:30 PM

Competitive Team Expectations:

The season is Sept - May w/ a choice of summer practice. The only month off is August. Team members are expected to attend as many practices as able, climb outside of practice, and attend competitions on the weekend. More information about USA Climbing can be found here.
